DIY Custom LPS Unicat Custom

I recently found an old LPS that had fake hair and was, in my opinion, very ugly. In this tutorial, I will show you how I made this sad little cat look fantastic. This Littlest Pet Shop Cat Unicorn Custom was inspired by real unicorns.

What you will need

Step 1: Cut the hair off the Littlest Pet Shop Cat

To start off, that weird little lock of hair had to go. Using a pair of scissors, cut the lock hair down as far as you can, or use a pair of pliers to pull the hair out of the head and fill it with clay.

Step 2: Sculpting the Horn

Once the hair is cut or pulled out, using Crayola air dry clay, sculpt the cone shaped horn, making it thick enough to carve when dry. Blend it onto the top of the LPS carefully and allow it to dry for 48 hours. The horn will likely break off at the base but that is okay, wet it down and stick it back on for now. We will glue it once it is dry.

Step 3: Base of the Eyes

For the base of the eyes, paint the entire eye white. Because of how sad this pet looked, I brought the eye up past the eyelid of the original, to make it look much happier and friendly. Apply as many coats as needed.

Step 4: Coloring the Eyes

Once the white paint is dry, use a small paint brush to paint the black part of the eyes. Go from the top of the white to about two thirds of the way down the eye, leaving enough for the color of the eye with a little extra room. Add two thin stripes of light pink and dark pink or red to the eyes for color. Feel free to make the lines wavy to give more texture.

Step 5: Sparkles and Touch ups

Add a few small white spots or shapes to bring the eye to life. Add any color where needed to touch up the eye to make it look as clean as possible.

Step 6: Reinforcing the Horn

After 48 hours, gently pull the horn off and apply Krazy glue to the head of the Littlest Pet Shop, and glue the horn down. Allow to dry and varnish it with a coat of Hard as Nails to keep it from falling apart.

Step 7: Painting the Base Color of the Cat

Using a light pastel pink, paint the body of the cat in several coats to ensure the body is well covered.

Painting the Tail and Head of your LPS Custom

Do the same to the head, avoiding painting the eyes and horn, and mix up some pastel purple, yellow, and blue. Paint the colors on the tail in bands, as shown in the image.

Eyelashes

For eyelashes, use a fine brush and paint a couple of lines on the corner of the eye of the LPS. Make them as even as possible.

Toe Beans

I used some copper paint on a fine tip brush to add toe beans onto the foot of the LPS. Shiny toe beans are important to unicats.

Painting the Horn

Using a yellow paint, cover the horn and let it dry. Then add two to three coats of gold paint on top of the horn on your LPS custom. This will ensure the base color of the actual horn is no longer visible. Add a thin black line going around from the top to base, to make it look like some kid smashed their ice cream on the head of the kitty.

Varnishing your LPS Custom

Using the Hard as Nails, coat the LPS entirely and allow it to dry for around 20 minutes. Patch any places you missed.

Rhinestones

Add a small circle of rhinestones around the base of the horn of the LPS. Secure them with krazy glue.

Finish your LPS Custom

Your LPS Unicat is ready to eat and poop rainbows. Happy crafting

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appeal. I must say you have done a great job with this. Also, the blog loads super quick for me on Internet explorer. Excellent Blog!

was just wondering if you get a lot of spam comments?
If so how do you prevent it, any plugin or anything you can suggest?

Hello! Yes, I do get a lot of spam, mostly for Yeezys or other shoes. Not sure why. I usually just do not approve them, so they don’t appear on my blog as spam comments. Other than that, I mostly ignore them, because there is just simply too many to sort through. Thank you for reading my blog, I really appreciate the support!
