The Polymer Clay Dragon Snake, Part Two: Fixing the Mistakes

If you have not seen part one, please click here to read it before part two, to get a better understanding of the current situation, which is an urgent one as little Snappy is currently on his death bed. Let’s make a base for him to sit on that covers the mistakes.

Materials

Step 1: Preparing to Make a Habitat for the Polymer Clay Dragon Snake

Start by taking a quarter of a full brown sculpey block and kneading it into a ball. Roll it out to about 3-4 inches diameter, and about a quarter of an inch thick.

Step 2: Arranging Rocks in the Habitat

Take a few clear rocks, pink rocks, and Snappy and put them on the piece of brown clay. Gently press Snappy down in the clay and adjust the clear and pink rocks securely around his tail in a way that he can pull out of but covers the end well- he cannot bake again. Pull him out and press the rocks in gently to leave an indent and leave them on for baking. Take a small pink crystal and wrap the bottom securely in silver Sculpey and stick it besides where Snappy sits for an added touch.

Step 3: Make Sculpey Grass for the Polymer Clay Dragon Snake’s Environment

Roll out a small piece of Sculpey into a rectangle or oval shape. Using a knife, gently cut the clay into pieces but leave it attached at the bottom.

Step 4: Attaching the Grass to the Polymer Clay Dragon Snake’s Home

Roll the grass gently with space in the middle and put it against one of the rocks. Use a dotting tool to separate the tips of grass and blend the base into the brown clay. Make between three to five of these little tufts, or if you are brave, cover the whole base besides where Snappy goes with grass.

Step 5: Start Making tiny Flowers

Next, cut off about an inch of wire and add a small blob of clay to the tip for the center of the flower, about a quarter inch big.

Step 6: Petals and Finishing the Flowers

Now add four or five little round pieces of clay to the sides of the circle, flattening them out slightly first. Carve out the middle piece with the same tool previously used for scales to make the petals in the middle.

Step 7: Placing the Flowers

Gently put the little flowers in the grass to make them look as real as possible in this situation.

Step 8: Bake

After Snappy is removed from the base temporarily, bake your creation at 275 for 15 minutes, rocks and all. Be aware that the rocks will be burning hot for about half an hour after being removed from the oven.

Step 9: Glue the Polymer Clay Dragon Snake First

After the rocks have cooled, put Snappy in his place, securing him with Krazy glue. Hold for 30 seconds to ensure he stays put.

Step 10: Reinforcing the Rocks

Gently pick up the rocks and glue them back down in their exact spots. Fill in any gaps with other small clear and pink rocks to hide the end of the lack of tail.

Step 11: Adding the Magic to the Rocks

Use the unicorn skin polish to generously coat the clear rocks, and use the pink and gold polish to add a bit of extra beauty to the pink rocks. Make sure the extra crystal is secure, and coat all of the rocks in a thick coat of the glow in the dark nail polish.

Step 12: Making Snappy and the Dirt Shiny

Using Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails, coat the plants, the brown dirt, and Snappy thoroughly. Allow to dry for about 15 to 20 minutes, and you now have a magical little friend to sit on a shelf or on a desk. Good luck and happy crafting!
